I tried to convey an analogy here between the sophistication of the Blackbird spyplane and the intelligence displayed by the crow in the AESOP fable we knew so well in our tender years. I also tried to show the similarites between the skull structure of the crow and the airplane`s nose section design.
The SR- 71 was retired from service by the Clinton Administration in 1997 and even by todays standards remains one of the most advanced, fastest and highest flying aircraft ever. It was designed to carry out pre and post attack strategic reconnaissance missions capable of surveying over 100,000 sq km of the Earth`s surface with global capability when flying with aerial refuelling support. Envisaged in 1958 chief designer Kelly Johnson said to his engineers, " We`ll fly at 90,000 ft and jack up the speed to mach 3. It will have a range of 4,000 miles. The higher and faster we fly the harder it will be to spot us much less stop us."
